The morning started quietly, with soft sunlight touching the rescue center. In my arms lay a newly rescued baby monkey—tiny, fragile, and clearly exhausted. His breaths were slow, almost trembling, and his little hands clung weakly to my shirt as if he feared being alone again. He was thin, hungry, and desperate for warmth, so I held him close, giving him the comfort he had been missing for so long.
But of course… someone else had noticed.
Right behind me, Cici sat with the biggest frown a baby monkey could make. Her arms were crossed, her lips sticking out in a dramatic pout. At first, she just stared, confused about who this “new baby” in my arms was. But when she saw me gently cradle him and rub his tiny back, her jealousy exploded instantly.
Cici walked closer, making little whining sounds—those classic “pay attention to me!” noises she always uses when she wants to be the center of love. She even reached out, trying to pull my hand away from the weak baby so she could claim it for herself. I couldn’t help laughing at her silly reaction, even though she was absolutely serious about it.
The rescued baby barely had the strength to move, but when Cici poked him with her tiny finger, he softly cried. Cici jumped back, startled, then looked at me as if saying, “Why is he crying? I didn’t do anything!” Her confusion was adorable.
Slowly, I let her sit beside me so she could observe him without feeling ignored. She peeked at him again, this time a little gentler, slowly understanding that he needed care, not competition. Her jealous face softened, and she rested her hand near him—not touching, just close enough to show she wanted to be included.
By the end of the day, Cici wasn’t pushing for attention anymore. Instead, she watched over the weak baby like a tiny guardian, still a bit jealous, but full of curiosity and unexpected sweetness.
From jealousy to gentle care… Cici always surprises us!
